# Create the first administrator

Create the first Admin-panel administrator and sign in.

Admin-panel has no public registration. You create the first administrator with a one-time setup link. After that, the administrator invites other users from the **Team** page.

Before you start, go to the work directory in your terminal:

```bash
cd ~/wproofreader-k8s
```

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Connect to Admin-panel

Open a second terminal. Run this command. Keep the terminal open while you use Admin-panel.

```bash
kubectl -n wsc port-forward service/admin-panel-web 8080:80
```

The command shows `Forwarding from 127.0.0.1:8080`.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Connect to WProofreader Server

Open a third terminal. Run this command. Keep the terminal open while you use Admin-panel.

```bash
kubectl -n wsc port-forward service/wproofreader-app 8081:80
```

The command shows `Forwarding from 127.0.0.1:8081`.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Get the setup link

Run this command in the first terminal:

```bash
kubectl -n wsc exec deployment/admin-panel-web -- \
  php artisan app:setup-token --regenerate --no-ansi
```

The output shows a setup URL, for example `http://127.0.0.1:8080/setup?token=...`.

{% hint style="info" %}
The link is valid for 24 hours. A new link makes all earlier links invalid. You cannot find the first link in the Pod logs, because Helm deletes the migration Job that created it.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Create the administrator

1. Open the setup URL in a web browser. The **Setup token** field already contains the token.
2. Enter your name in **Name**.
3. Enter your email address in **Email**.
4. Enter a password in **Password** and **Confirm password**. Use at least eight characters, with uppercase and lowercase letters.
5. Click **Create administrator**.

Admin-panel opens the **Subscription** page. The license status is **Active**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Create the administrator from the command line

Use this procedure if you cannot open the setup page. It works only before the first user exists.

```bash
kubectl -n wsc exec --stdin --tty deployment/admin-panel-web -- \
  php artisan admin:create
```

The command asks for the name and email address. It generates a password and shows it one time.

To select the initial password, add the `--password` option. The password must have at least 12 characters.

```bash
kubectl -n wsc exec --stdin --tty deployment/admin-panel-web -- \
  php artisan admin:create --password='replace-with-a-password'
```

{% hint style="warning" %}
The password can stay in your shell history and can be visible in the process list. Omit the `--password` option when possible and use the generated password.
{% endhint %}

To reset a password, replace `user@example.com` with the email address of the user. Then run this command:

```bash
kubectl -n wsc exec deployment/admin-panel-web -- \
  php artisan user:reset-password 'user@example.com'
```

The command shows the new password one time.
