# Sign in and reset a password

Sign in to the self-hosted admin panel with your email address and password. Configured providers also offer Google, Microsoft or LinkedIn sign-in.

Signing in, two-factor authentication and the OAuth sign-in buttons work the same as in the Cloud admin panel. See [Signing in](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/signing-in.md) and [Account security](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/account-security.md). This page covers what is different on a self-hosted server.

### Signing in with an OAuth provider

OAuth lets you sign in with an account from another provider. A provider button appears only when your server administrator enables that provider.

For server settings, see [OAuth provider sign-in](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/self-hosted/server-configuration.md#oauth-provider-sign-in).

1. Click the provider button on **Sign in**.
2. Follow the provider's sign-in instructions.

If your account email matches the provider email, you can sign in with the provider before you connect it in your profile. This works only when two-factor authentication is off.

If that account has two-factor authentication, sign in with your password and code first. Then connect the provider in [Connected accounts](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/account-security.md#connected-accounts).

If no account has the provider email, the admin panel does not create one. Sign-in fails with an error. Ask the owner or an administrator for an invitation first.

### Signing in from the browser extension

When WProofreader Business is activated for your team, the browser extension opens **Subscription** for that Business team after sign-in.

If Business is not activated, an owner sees **Products** with "Activate WProofreader Business to start using the browser extension."

Other members see **Subscription** with "The browser extension is not activated on this server yet. Ask your administrator to activate WProofreader Business."

Opening the admin panel from the extension does not activate a product. See [Products](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/self-hosted/products.md#activating-a-product).

### Joining by invitation

The owner or an administrator sends you an invitation link. It is valid for seven days.

1. Open the invitation link.
2. Check your invited email address on **Join \<TEAM\_NAME>**.
3. Enter your name in **Name**.
4. Enter a password in **Password**.
5. Enter it again in **Confirm password**.
6. Click **Create account and join**.

\<TEAM\_NAME> is the inviting team's name. You cannot change the invited email address. The invitation confirms your address without another email verification step.

If you already have an account with that email address, sign in. Open the invitation link again to join the team.

If the link is expired, canceled or unavailable, ask for a new invitation. If you signed in with a different email address, sign out first.

### Resetting your password

Your password-reset options depend on whether the server can send email. See [Email through SMTP](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/self-hosted/server-configuration.md#email-through-smtp).

#### When the server sends email

The **Sign in** page shows **Forgot your password?**. Follow [Resetting your password](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/signing-in.md#resetting-your-password).

#### When email reset is unavailable

The **Sign in** page shows "Forgotten your password? Ask your administrator to set a new one."

Ask the owner or an administrator to [set a member password](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/self-hosted/team.md#setting-a-password-for-a-member).

If you are the owner, ask your server administrator to [reset your password with a command](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/self-hosted/server-commands.md#reset-the-password-of-a-user).

{% hint style="info" %}
Use at least eight characters, including one uppercase and one lowercase letter. Passwords generated by server commands have separate requirements. See [Server commands](/v6.18.1/admin-panel/self-hosted/server-commands.md).
{% endhint %}
