# How is the cloud service usage calculated?

Cloud service usage is based on the number of words processed annually, regardless of their correctness level, and varies with the chosen plan. For instance, the Starter package allows processing up to 200 million words per year. The service tallies all words processed, correct or not.

In tools like WProofreader or SCAYT, the text is split into sentences and sent in batches (up to 4 sentences) for checking. When editing begins with the proofreader enabled, the entire text is parsed into sentences. All words, excluding punctuation and spaces, are counted. Words in altered sentences are recounted.

There's also a sentence caching mechanism during a session. Repeatedly entered identical sentences or paragraphs won't trigger external checks, so these words aren't counted. For example, if you have a 1,000-word text and add a word to a sentence, only the words in the updated sentence are added to the original 1,000 for recounting.

Another scenario: if you edit a 1,000-word document, save and reload it, then start editing again, all 1,000 words are rechecked, totaling 2,000 words processed.
